They Have to Create the Beast First — Decision Science Corp research report.

Editorial (Mark Hopkins): They Have to Create the Beast First — DSC blog

On the night of September 8–9, 2026 (UTC), Jacob Coxon quit Anthropic in public, the WSJ had already framed the story, and three named amplifiers — Calvin, Wildeford, Kokotajlo — quote-tweeted him inside ten minutes. That is not a vibes claim. We have status IDs, snowflake timestamps, a Good Ventures 990-PF line for Coxon ($20,159, 2022), and Survival & Flourishing Fund tables that put real dollars into Encode, AI Futures, and AIPI — the same advocacy neighborhood Thayer named (he said AIPN; the payee on SFF paper is AIPI — don’t collapse the names).

What held: the EA money trunk, the first-wave timing, METR as an institutional choke-point setup upgraded Sep 12 to an Anthropic unilateral permanent embed commit (METR named in We Must Pace the Frontier — not yet a statute), and a CEO “pace the frontier” lockstep later that week. What did not hold: Tallinn as an Anthropic board member, a paid-boost invoice, or “the resignation was bought.” Smoke and fire are real. The stamped conspiracy invoice is not in the file.

We originally chased whether this stack plugged into the broader foreign-influence picture we’d been mapping. The digs taught us the overlap is slim at best — parallel machines, not a shared paymaster on paper. This pack stays on Coxon, the amplification weekend, and the EA money that actually shows up in the receipts.
